Women experience 513$ billion a year because of pay gaps that persist them and their male peers. in accordance to a report in the American Association of university Women. Women earn 80 cents on average for every dollar brought home by men. Many times for the same jobs. The wage disparity begins to widen almost as soon as women start working, with 20 year old working women tend to earn 90 cents for every dollar men gain. Interestingly, by the time women turn 54, they are earning 22 cents less than men. This is mainly due to the fact that employers base their salary offers on what a worker earned previously, leaving most women at a distinct disadvantage and it is harder to make up the difference. The gap is more stark with women of color. Latina’s earned only 53 cents for every dollar earned by white men. In addition, black women earned 61 cents for every dollar earned by white men. California has the slimmest gap with women earning 89 cents to the men’s dollar, while Louisiana fared the worst with women earning 69 % of male workers pay. In conclusion, efforts are underway to ease these inequities by having stronger advocates among the workplace. The AAUW has an immediate goal to train over 10,000 women on how to negotiate better salaries.
